![]() Canon-McMillan Hockey Association 2011 - 2012 Western Pennsylvania High School RankingsClass AAA High School Hockey rankings from Myhockeyrankings.com - these rankings include our preseason scrimmage against Bishop Canevin and St. Margaret's Tournament results. Helping one of our own familiesOn Wednesday, November 23, 2011, Canon-McMillan Hockey Association has a big night of hockey planned for the Iceoplex. Our two Freshmen teams will be playing one another at 6:00 p.m., which will be followed by the Junior Varsity team playing Mt. Lebanon at 7:20 pm. Finally, the Varsity team will be playing Mt. Lebanon at 8:30 p.m. For the first time in our league, PIHL, four teams from one organization will be playing on one night. However, this is a special night for another reason. One of the CM Hockey Association families, the Taylor family from Cecil, has been hit with a tragedy few of us can imagine. Over the summer, Kyle Taylor's (Freshmen Blue) brother, Matt - age 23, was injured while vacationing at the beach, when he dove into a wave. Matt's injury has left him paralyzed from the chest down. As you can imagine, the family not only is suffering emotionally, but also financially, as well. In the past, the Canon-McMIllan Hockey Association has done fundraising to assist other organizations and to help offset the cost of hockey. Now, we have the opportunity to help one of our own in a time of need. During these games, we will have our usual table set up at the door into the rink. We will be having Chinese Auction items, one of the items I am aware of at this point is tickets to Friday's Penguin game against Ottawa - an opportunity to see Sidney Crosby, and a 50/50 raffle in which the organization will be donating its portion of the take to the Taylor family. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the organization as a whole, I ask for all of you to attend the games and participate in the fundraiser to the best of your ability. If you would like to donate or bring an auction item please contact Mike Woznichak or BJ Pustovrh at 724-678-4320. There is also a Spaghetti Dinner being held at the Cecil #3 Fire Hall on December 11, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are $7 for adults and $5 for children. For tickets or information contact Arlene Curry - 724-745-4607 or Katlyn Taylor - 724-448-4893. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Welcome Developmental Players and Families!Although we anticipate additional players to register over the next few weeks, we have been able to secure an ice slot for the Developmental Program for Saturday, August 27th at 9:00 a.m to 9:50 a.m. at the Iceoplex and we wanted to get started. This will probably be the only morning ice time for most of the season the ice time will be 7 or 7:30 pm on Saturdays. There will be no ice slot during the Labor Day weekend so the next ice slot will be Saturday, September 10th. Please periodically check this website for updates not only for Developmental news and ice times, but also for the other teams in the Association. For the first time, Developmental families will be able to participate in all of the fundraisers available to the rest of the Canon Mac hockey families. The Association participates in a number of fundraisers throughout the hockey season, Sarris candy, hoagies, etc., in an effort to help with the cost of playing hockey. Our website and Cindy Christian (cindy.christian@comcast.net) are the contacts for information on fundraising. Also, and again for the first time, Developmental families will be participating in our mandatory fundraiser - a Steak Fry. The steak fry is scheduled for Sept. 17th and will be at the Yost Pavilion at Canonsburg Park. This is a great opportunity to meet other families and players and have some fun and maybe even a prize or two. Each of you will receive 5 tickets with a value of $20, which you will or have already paid for these tickets when registering for the program. Cindy Christian will be contacting you on how to get your tickets and additional info on the Steak Fry. You can sell the tickets to family or friends or use them yourself and attend the Steak Fry. You can get additional tickets if necessary.
Lastly, if you know of other players who want to participate in the Developmental Program please ask them to register as each of you have done so they can get started, as well. If you have any questions about the program please contact me or any member of the Board of Directors. Our email address are on the website.

Finally we are on line with Pointstreak
After much ado and time, Pointstreak is now live and ready for us to create our accounts and register our players.
Go to our website and you will see a tab for Pointstreak, click on the tab and you will access the page with the links to the Pointstreak website. There are two links available: one for the PIHL teams (Varsity, JV and Freshmen) and one for the Developmental team. Click on the appropriate link.
The first step in the process is setting up your account, which is similar to on-line accounts you have set up in the past. Next you will add your player or players. Asteriks next to the fields indicate required fields, but bear in mind some of the information has already been provided in the paper registration documents you provided at tryouts. You will need to enter this information anyway.
After adding your player you next register them for the team they have been selected (Varsity, JV or Freshmen), including identifying their position: goalie or skater. After this step you will proceed to checkout and will have the choice of paying on your credit card or paying with cash/check (you obviously will have send a check to Dave McKown, 137 Surrey Drive, Canonsburg, PA 15317). You can pay any amount on your credit card by changing the amount identified next to the "Pay Now" button.
You will notice you initially will be billed for the full fee amount, including jerseys and fundraiser, even though you may have paid your committment and jersey fee at tryouts or perhaps additional amounts. Dave will credit your account for all payments received from behind the scenes after you create your account.
Finally, as many of you will choose to make partial payments on your credit/debit cards or checks, the payment schedule will be as follows:
If you have any problems please let Bruce Ferguson know.
2011 - 2012 Developmental Program
Hockey is just around the corner. As noted at last season's banquet, the Developmental Program will be getting started earlier than in previous seasons. In fact, we will begin nearly 3 months earlier, which equates to approximately 10 - 12 extra ice slots. As with our PIHL teams, the Developmental Program will begin in early August. Registration for the 2011 - 2012 Program will begin soon and will be completed through the website. The cost will be the same as last season, $500, however, we will be requiring each family to participate (5 - $20 tickets) in the Association's mandatory fundraiser, which is a Steak Fry. Also, Developmental families will be able to participate in all Association fundraising opportunities making the price of hockey a bit more affordable. Fundraising details will be forthcoming from our Director of Fundraising, Cindy Christian. If anyone knows of a player in 2nd through 6th grade who is interested in playing Developmental Hockey please direct them to our website or they can contact Darrin Wissinger or Bruce Ferguson. Contact information is under the "Contact" tab at the top of the website home page. Practice slotted to begin in early August!Although we are still awaiting the "official" ice schedule from the Iceoplex, practice for the Freshmen, JV and Varsity teams will begin on Sunday, August 7th. The ice slot time has changed this season and is now from 7 p.m. until 10:50 p.m. Individual teams ice times will be announced in the next week or two. The Varsity team will once again have the Tuesday, 3:50 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. ice slot; however, this practice will not begin until school starts back up. |
